Courtney Brake is a bioartist and scientist, born and raised in Houston, Texas. Courtney strives to share her passion for the microscopic world in a creative and educational way. Drawing on her background in microbiology, immunology, and infectious disease, she incorporates biological themes into her photography and installations. She attempts to negate the negative connotations often associated with bacteria and other microscopic organisms through beauty, curiosity, and education.


She is currently based in Bryan, Texas, where she received her BS in Animal Science, from Texas A&M University in 2009 and is presently pursuing her MFA in Visualization at Texas A&M. Many of her collaborations have been published in peer-reviewed journals, including but not limited to, PLoS One and Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Courtney is currently collaborating with the Bacterial Interactions and Fitness Laboratory and the Institute of Applied Creativity at Texas A&M to develop new methods to observe and collect data on various types of bacteria.
